An subsidiary of Huntington, West Virginia, based Steel of West Virginia, Inc., Steel Ventures Inc. is a national and international supplier of galvanized steel. The company sells blast-resistant modules to refining and natural gas industries and for industrial and commercial construction for safety reasons and to government and the military for security reasons.
In 1850, the British galvanizing industry was consuming 10,000 tons of zinc annually to produce galvanized steel, and in 1870 the first galvanizing plant opened in the United State. Today, more than 600,000 tons of zinc is consumed annually in North America to produce hot-dip galvanized steel. Galvanizing is found in almost every major application and industry where iron or steel is used.
Steel Ventures, Inc. completed a new building in 2017 near the Industrial Parkway in Greenup County in Eastern Kentucky creating 65 new jobs and adding $16 million to the local economy. Since the new facility opened, Steel Ventures, Inc. has more than doubled its employee base to about 150 employees.
